Maybe I'll get more consistant again.

Anyway, a lot has been going on. Andrea and I moved back to Kansas City. It was a tough decision. I of course did not want to leave my friends, and it will be a little more difficult to do what I want to do here in KC, but in the end it pretty much came down to finances. I'm getting married, I want to buy a house, I will be having kids sometime in the next decade. These things would have been very hard or impossible living in Los Angeles. Plus, I have to admit, LA kind of sucks. There are great things about that city, but living life day to day there borders on soul crushing. In the end, the only thing holding me there was my friends, and, sorry guys, that's not enough. My hope is to visit a lot, and certainly if something comes up career wise I will move back if necessary, but I'm pretty much done with LA at this point.

Hey, great news. Team Atrox Unlimited's entry in the Mayday film festival won "Best in Show." Sure, it's mostly a bunch of friends damn near killing themselves by making a movie in 24 hours "just for fun," but it still feels pretty good. Plus our lead actress Nell took home "Best Actress." We rule!

Anyway, that's all for now. I'll try and post again once I start seeing some movies/watching TV (still haven't watched the "Veronica Mars" finale). Plus I am sure to have something to say about "The Sopranos" finale on Monday.

See ya soon!

Favorite Rumor?

My favorite rumor of the moment is that Anna Nicole Smith's son was offed because he is actually the father of her child.

I don't know why, but that makes me laugh really hard. I's been busy a'ight!

Um, so what happened at comic-con? Jeff has a lot to say about it. Also, so does Lindsay. Oh, and Mike. Oh, oh, and Paul. I will try and cover what they did not.

LA traffic is stupid. It took us a third of the time to travel twice the distance once we got out of LA county.

The hotel charged everything up front in advance. I've never had a place do that before. At least not that I can remember.

I was impressed with how quick we got our passes on Wednesday night. I had heard horror stories about waiting in line. Also, they didn't ask for ID, so Mike was able to be Earth-2 Jeff Stone for a couple of days. Leslie was super excited that it was Frank and my's first time. She made sure to watch our faces when we walked on the floor. That place is fucking huge. And there are nerds EVERYWHERE. Also, hot girls. I spent the first part of the evening following people around as I was a little unsure what to do with myself. Once I got my Con legs under me, I did a little shopping. The first thing I got was a present for Andrea (awww). It was a stuffed turtle (she loves turtles). I told here she could name him Squinty because he has squinty eyes (also, I bought it from an Asian dude...who's a racist?). Or Con 'cause I bought him at Comic-Con. She chose Con. I then bought a Green Lantern shirt and a Transformers shirt. I was with Leslie and Emory most of the night, and we pretty much just wandered around and bought stuff. After we left we had dinner at Denny'.

I started Thursday by learning about copyright law. It was interesting. I learned a lot of cool stuff, but most of it was useless to us at the point where we are in our webcomic lives. But at least it was a good time. I then briefly stopped at the Rosario Dawson comic panel, but I was too far away to bask in her hotness, so I left. I then ran into Emory waiting for the Chopra/Morrison panel (see Jeff's blog). He was content to chill there. I was not. So I hit the floor. The only interesting thing that happened there was I took a picture of this tall girl on stilts and her hot companion. They gave me a flyer for their booth. They had a book that was pretty cool, with awesome art. And the artist signed the book for me (I went back and got the author's). Also, the artist was eastern Europe's Leslie Levings. I then went back for Chopra/Morrison (see Jeff's blog). Afterwards Emory, Leslie and I went to go get food. Cause we hadn't eaten. We ate at this place called "Dick's" where the whole point is for people to be obnoxious. The waiter threw cups at us twice. It was awesome! Emory and I then made our way back to check out the kung-fu presentation while Leslie went to meet her friends Andrew, Hillary and Karen who came down from San Francisco. The kung-fu thing was lame so Emory and I cut out to go meet everyone at "Joe's Crab Shack." It was fun. Once again, see Jeff's blog.

Thursday's Mystery of the Day: Did Jeff sleep in his jeans?
Answer: No

Friday was spent mostly in Hall H. The Universal panel was pretty awesome. We saw a preview for this movie called "Children of Men," directed by Alfonso Curaon. It looks great. The plot is pretty standard distopian future stuff, but the whole thing was done with long, uninterrupted shots. There's one shot that takes place during a battle scene, and it goes on for ten minutes. Also, we got to see footage from the "King Kong: Extended Edition" DVD. Looks cool. We missed most of the Paramount panel, but the key bit of information that was gathered we did see at the end. They showed a video clip of Michael Bay saying he was sorry he couldn't be there or show any footage for "Transformer", but they had just added a new member to the cast. The video then faded out, and this dude came on stage with a cell phone. He held the cell phone to the mic, and motherfuckin' Optimus Prime was on the other end. As Emory said, now that movie is perfect. All the people that work at Lucasfilm can lick my hairy taint. Finally, there were motherfuckin' Snakes on a motherfuckin' Plane. Man that panel was awesome. Even my fear of snakes couldn't keep me from enjoying the hell out of that shit. The only thing I did outside of Hall H on Friday was go to the "Battlestar" panel. I'm super happy I finished season 2 before hand, as I would have been spoiled on it if I hadn't. The highlight was Olmos informing us that season 3 is going to be ten times darker than everything that has come before. Oh yeah, and we learned in the panel before that that they are releasing the Richard Donner cut of "Superman II."

Friday's Mystery of the Day: Who wants to rape Emory?
Answer: Frank and 2 and 1/2 more people

I spent almost all of Saturday on the floor. I got some "Serenity" stuff (more on that later) and some more comics. Also, I took a lot of pictures of all of the nerds. Saturday is the big day, and everyone comes dressed up. It was pretty impressive. Mostly it's cool because all of these shy people totally let loose knowing that for once in their lives, they won't be judged but celebrated. Specifically it's cool to see all the girls that clearly don't show any skin 364 days a year let loose and come in gold bikinis and the like. The only thing I did outside the floor on Saturday was go to the "Veronica Mars" panel. This was slightly disappointing as I had already learned all the information they dispelled. However, there was an entertaining moment in the Q&A. This dude got up and informed Kristen Bell that he lived in her old apartment, and had received a package in the mail for her and he had brought it to give to her. She asked which apartment, and he reminded her where it was, and she clearly knew he wasn't lying. So he brought it to the security guy and he put it on the stage. Kristen then looked at the return address, and commented that it was from her agent who clearly did not realize she had moved two years ago. It is common thinking that it was a foot massager

The best part of the con happened on Saturday night when we were leaving. I was walking to our tram stop, when I looked to my right and noticed there was a group of girls conversing with some dude. Then I realized, simply by the back of his head, that it was Joss Whedon. I walked directly over to him. On the way, I ran through my brain trying to think of anything I could have him sign. I then realized that I had purchased the "Serenity" trade paper back comic book. He was very gracious. I shook his hand, had him sign the book, and then Leslie, as if she was my mother and I was a five year old meeting Ronald McDonald for the first time, asked me if I wanted a picture. I took the picture, thanked him, and left. The only bad part was I was in such a star struck tizzy, I didn't think to give him an Atrox mini. Oh well, next time.

Saturday night was spent drinking. Most of this story can be found on Lindsay's blog. The one part that was solely mine, was when I saw Gotham Chopra, Deepak Chopra's son, kickin' it in the lobby. He had mediated the panel with his dad, and is the guy in charge of Virgin Comics, a new comics company under the Virgin label who's purpose is to publish comics using Indian (like, really from India) myth in most if not all of their titles. I told Gotham that I really liked the panel and that I thought the stuff their company was doing was awesome. type='text'>When Was THIS Meeting

So when did it all of a sudden become OK to start filming "Day For Night"* again? I mean, it has its charms and uses, but it's really hard to see what's going on and I feel like today's budgets and lighting capabilities would allow for people to actually shoot at night. I'm talking mostly to the producers of "The 4400" here. I've seen it in other stuff as well, but they're the worst. Almost every night scene in the first season seems to be shot "Day For Night." Move into the now people.

Despite that, "The 4400" is totally enjoyable. I'm looking forward to ripping through Season 2 and catching up on Season 3.

*For those of you not in the know, "Day For Night" filming is a process where the scenes are shot in the day, but the exposure is messed with to make it look like nighttime. This seems to be done mostly for budgetary reasons as to not have to worry about lights. Big indications of this technique are when everything looks really blue, and when trees, etc. have very highly defined shadows.

I Just Remembered

So I was just reminded of that time in high school where Jeff yelled at me saying he was sick of my stories about child pornography. We were terribly unorganized as usual, but we pulled it out like we always do. I left after our big one take door breaking shot. It looks awesome! Can't wait 'til we put it up.

That night Andrea did some shopping and then had dinner together. She was gracious enough to do makeup for the video we were shooting, and as part of agreeing to do it I promised we could have a date night. Sunday was spent back over at Llama school doing the majority of the filmming for the video. This is where Andrea's makeup skills came into play, and she did AWESOME! We were all really happy with how it came out.

After shooting Andrea and I went home and spent way too much time trying to figure out what to eat and then watched several episodes of Cheers. It's where everybody knows your name.

Man, we are such an old married couple already.

Also, I called my dad yesterday. That's it.

Just kidding. Anyway, I'm on the 134 and I look off to my left, and at a brief glance, it looks like the trees lining the freeway have smoke coming out of them. Are they on fire? No. Has the smog gotten so bad that it's starting to form dark clouds above vegetation? Not likely. Upon a longer look (while totally not getting in a car accident I might add), it seems that these are collections of probably hundreds of bugs, closely formed into what literally does look like a small, black cloud. AAAHHHH!!! What are these bugs doing? What could possible be so great about the trees lining the 134 that all these fucking bugs need to be just chillin' above them?

More importantly, are these bugs actually bugs and not nanotech, learning what a tree is before they move on to mobile, living things? I realize now that this would be a great place to reference Michael Crichton's "Prey," but alas I have not read it.

Emory?

Oh wait, he hates the internet.

Jeff?

If This Is Anyone But Steve Allen...

...you're stealing my bit!

So the MTV movie awards were last week. They were pretty bad this year. Worse than usual. However, I did notice something. In the opening film parody, they made fun of Mi-III. They did an extended bit off of the opening scene where Tom Cruise is tied up. Only, it was Topher Grace who had tied up Jessica Alba and put an explosive charge in her head and was threatening to shoot Flavor Flav with his pee unless Jessica told him where the Golden Popcorn was (this makes a lot more sense if you've seen Mi-III, but it does not make it funny).

This bit ends with Topher proclaiming that Jessica is ready to host the MTV movie awards because she withstood his torture. They have a tender moment. Then her head exploads.

THEY STOLE OUR BIT!! Ok, maybe they didn't steal it, since they probably filmed theirs around the same time we filmed ours, but come on! It's like the same joke. At least now we know that if nothing else, we can have a career writing for the MTV awards shows.

A Little Late

So this is kind of old news, but X-Men did not retain the top spot at the box office last weekend. It's when all the flowers have bloomed from all the rain during the spring. School is out. It's the time when everyone starts to enjoy the beautiful weather. Except if you live in Los Angeles. If you live in Los Angeles, you get to enjoy "June Gloom." That is where for most of the month you are treated to crappy gray haze, a combination of clouds and pollution. In a place where it's beautiful pretty much the rest of the year, the one month that everyone else is enjoying nature we get to enjoy...the traffic? I probably shouldn't complain. Mostly it was just entertaining crap. Not like goofy entertaining crap like "Con-Air," but just crap that happens to be entertaining.

The problem with this movie is that no one really cared about it. Fox rushed through its production to try and beat "Superman" and show up Bryan Singer. Half the cast was clearly not that interested in coming back, and just got paid off to do a few scenes. The new x-men they introduced were given almost nothing to do because they were just plowing through the story and gave no time for character development (more on that later). Finally, Brett Ratner doesn't care about trying to make a good movie he just cares about making a movie that is done on time and makes money, assuming those qualities make a good movie.

Now the finer points of what's wrong with it. NO CHARACTERS!!! The Phoenix is one of the more interesting characters in comic book land and they do nothing with her. The few moments they deal with her character are the only real interesting moments in the movie. They still aren't handled that well, but one could see where there was strong potential for a great movie (before Ratner of course). I mean, THREE major characters die and at no point do we really give a shit. The first, of course, is Cyclops. He has like four lines. His death is so pointless. The second, which is the funeral in the movie (you were wrong Jeff) is Xavier. This death is stupid. And totally telegraphed. There is even an exchange in the beginning of the movie where Xavier tells Storm she should take over for him when he goes, and she gives him a look that says, "Oh Xavier, you'll never die!" BOOOOOOO!!

Jean Grey is the last death. And oh how we didn't care. Sure, they try to do some interesting things with Jean Grey and Wolverine, but it doesn't really work.

As far as the new characters go, Beast is the only one that gets to do anything. And by anything I mean, have a few lines. They don't do a whole lot with his "character." And why the fuck is Angel even in it. I mean, his dad created the cure, but they don't really even do anything with that.

Basically, if either the writer and/or even more so the director actually cared about this movie it could have been good. The could have buffered against the studio. Instead we got Ratner, the studio bitch, and this worthless sequel to a movie that is arguably the best movie of the third millenium.

Until next time.<div On top of that they are remodeling my store (Sprint), so there's shit EVERYWHERE. All of this has led me to be kinda stressed out. Those who don't know me that well, should know I'm a control freak. Borderline OCD. Which of course means, I'm not liking my space to be as messed up as it is at work, and I'm REALLY not liking not being able to do internet/computer stuff at home (thank God I can get internet at work most of the time).

Like a lot of people, being stressed has caused me to have weird dreams. But not weird awesome dreams. Weird lame dreams. Like being late for work. Or being late for catching a plane. Could the symbolism of my unconscious be any more labored? I swear to God brain, if I have a dream tonight about being naked at school, I'm coming in there!

Welcome Friend

So my friend Lindsay just started a blog. Our film was on time, and is a pretty good piece of art considering it was made in 23 hours. That's right, not only was it on time, but we were early. It has one of the greatest line deliveries of all time by Kim Powell. Seriously, by the end of the night I had watched the whole thing like 25 times, and that was the one thing that still had me cracking up every time. Special thanks to Lindsay Hollinger and Nell Rutledge, along with the aforementioned Kim Powell for their excellent help. We are trying to figure out a time for me to go down and look at stuff. Flights are expensive right now, so who knows if that will work. Check out the website and join up if you are interested.

A good friend of mine died earlier in the month. I had not seen him in about 4 years, but had had constant contact through our high school message forum. It's been tough trying to come to grips with it. I still don't feel like it's real. I suppose I won't for a while. Probably at my wedding when he isn't there. I don't know what else to say about it other than I'm still sad and I miss him.

Oh well, that's all for now. See ya again sometime soon. Lotsa hard work and crazy fun. Planning a wedding is a hassle. But I'm still here. Not that there's that many of you out there. Here's a rundown of what's been happening.

The site is doing great. We've been busy and injured, but we are gearing up for APE. If you live in the San Francisco area you should come say hey. It doesn't cost that much money. For reals.

As already discussed, Andrea and I are engaged. Her mom, sister and cousin came in town and we made a whole weekend out of it. It was pretty cool. Now we have to plan the actual wedding. Just planning the engagement party my dad and stepmom are throwing for us has been a headache. I'm hoping that the fact that Andrea and her mom spent a week together doing wedding stuff and they didn't kill each other is a good sign.

This blog turned a year old back in February. I only average about five posts a month, which seems like a waste of time. But I'm not willing to give up on it yet. Maybe I'll be inspired sometime soon. We'll see.

More soon...maybe.

More Bling For That Thing

Andrea and I are engaged.

'Nuff said.

HUHZAH!

Amy gets recognized!

New strip up!

Enjoy!

Atrox

Last week was a landmark week for us. This is mostly because of lots of word that season 4 was great and season 5 should be better. Also, Fury is show runner now, and Fury is quality. I think I'm kinda gay for him.

Anyway, season 4 is pretty good. That show is racist. And sexist. But it's also pretty heavy on the awesome. I've kind of decided that the writers pretty much decided that the M.O. would be to get Jack and/or CTU in a tight situation, and then have Jack do the craziest thing possible to get him/them out of it. It's totally unbelievable, but totally entertaining. Also, torture is apparantly VERY entertaining, cause they do it A LOT.

It's also pretty fun to identify by model number the phones being used, since they're all either Sprint or Nextel phones. This is a pattern that has become all too prevalent in recent months, and it needs to stop. My first piece of evidence is the movie The 40 Year Old Virgin. This is a movie that was loved by almost everyone. This includes my closest friends, all of whom are well educated and who's opinions often mirror that of my own. It has been placed on top ten lists by a lot of the nations top critics. I was unfortunate enough, because of limited time and money, to not be able to see it in the theaters. Because of this, I rented it at my local Blockbuster. The copy that I rented was the extended edition, advertised as having 17 extra minutes on it. I was excited. The movie failed me. I could see why people liked it. There were very funny moments. The story and the characters were much more intriguing than most comedies that are released. The problem? It's 2 hour plus runtime. There are reasons directors delete scenes from their movies. It's called pacing. Keep the train moving. This puppy gets derailed multiple times. As soon as it would start up, and get me drawn back in, an unnecessarily long scene would take it right back off the track again. I'm not saying that we can't have director's cuts or extended versions of these movies out there. However, use some discretion. They should put footage back in if they feel it helps the movie, not just because they have it. Have some respect for the movie. I hope you can understand my feelings on this. There is nothing more disappointing than having a movie that is so highly regarded by everyone else bore you to tears. Thank you.

So This Is Christmas

So, Christmas was pretty good. It's sorta lost its luster in the last few years. Mostly because I usually know everything I'm getting well before the holiday. I think my favorite gift this year is The Complete Calvin and Hobbes. Reading through it so far has reminded me how much I love that strip. Not only how funny it is, but also the influence it had on my youth. This was a strip that laid out a lot of the frustrations I had as a child. And then as an adult understanding my own issues with art vs. commerce, and seeing those reflected in Watterson's own ideals was pretty awesome. I have unlimited respect for him and how he decided to end the strip. Plus, the vocabulary in that strip is probably the reason I talk so good. I'm just saying that threatening me with physical violence is not going to help you. I didn't make the phone. I didn't build the towers. Just relax. It was great. We went on Thursday and Friday. Friday was a little busy, so that was annoying, but still awesome. Our favorite things were "Soarin' Over California" and the river madness ride. They were both in California, which was a little weird considering there is so much less to do there. We did not get to go on Space Mountain, because we are both very impatient and were not inclined to wait for like 2 hours for a ride.

So yeah, the whole trip was awesome, and then we showed up back home and someone had broken into our apartment.

They only took about $30 in cash. And they specifically bypassed a credit card and a piece of gold worth about $50, so they were either not smart or in a hurry. It's still pretty creepy. There's video surveilance in our building, so we're hoping they can catch whoever did it. First thing Monday we're getting renters insurance though.

My One True Love

So Jeff won't shut up about those "True" adds where a cartoonishly attractive woman seductively advertises that you'll get to have sex with her if you join an online dating community. Now, as Jeff has pointed out, these adds are super offensive. But now they've taken on a creepy tone. Have you seen the ones that move? So far I've seen one where a big breasted brunette adjusts her cowboy hat, and a beach blonde seductively caresses the sand. Except that her arm doesn't really move naturally. It mostly looks like her arm detaches itself at the elbow and slides back and forth, hovering just above the sand. As if to say, "Look what I can do?" I think these are supposed to increase the "come hither" looks in their eyes, but it mostly looks like they're having a seizure.

Seriously, what will advertising do next?

IT'S ALIVE!!!

The website is up! Of course, she's only signed for one more season at this point, so who knows what May will bring, but for right now I'm enjoying the ride. One thing that I have to admit though is now that I'm all caught up, I miss that immediate gratification of knowing I just had to hit the next episode on the DVD rather than wait a whole week (or summer) to see the next episode. I want it now! Of course, seeing as how there's about 2 1/2 episodes worth of dialogue in one show, I could just watch them over again to fill the void.

"My Name is Earl," is pretty good. They use the freedom of not being in front of an audience pretty well. However, I have a feeling that the concept could wear thin pretty quick.

I already talked about "Supernatural," so that leaves us with "Bones." I can take or leave weekly mystery shows like this. Sure, they're entertaining, but if a show isn't going to make me watch every episode to know what's going on, then I pretty much don't want to watch any. That being said, David Boreanaz doing his thing is pretty mesmorizing. And he plays well off of Deschannel. I won't be sad if I miss an episode, but it's pretty fun.

Wednesday:

My taping of "Lost" and "Invasion" fucked up this week. This means two things. First, "Invasion" is outta here. I was pretty impartial to it anyways. Second, the whole theory that you can miss an episode or two or ten and still know what's going on in "Lost" will be tested. I've already talked about "Veronica Mars." Just watch it already.

That wraps it up. I will keep you posted with reviews and opinions as the year progresses.

It Helps if You Twist Your Nipples a Little Bit

God I love Veronica Mars. Not in a long time has a show brought it so completely in a season premiere after bringing it so hard in a season finally. Man!

Two twists of which I won't spoil. I saw the first one coming a mile away. The second, which clearly sets up at least a first half story arc if not a story arc for the whole season I did not see coming.

Funny and suspensful as ever.

Super Excited

So tonight ends the long summer wait for "Veronica Mars." And I could not be more excited. In the long, slow burn of summer I came to the realization that I super love that show. Now that most of the HBO shows are not airing, I'd have to say it is my favorite show currently on TV. Part of this is probably due to the fact that it gives me found memories of Buffy, but it's still a damn good show in its own right. The only downfalls are it's up against "Lost," which means it will have a hard time not getting canceled, and now that I no longer live forty feet away from Jeff and Emory, Jeff won't come downstairs to watch it with us anymore. Andrea offered up the idea of cooking him food so he'd come over. We'll see.

So fall TV then. Every fall I always go through EW's new shows list and pick out all the shows I want to watch. I then usually give them at least two episodes to entice me and if I'm not hooked, I give up. This year I finally dropped "The West Wing." Seeing as how I still had not watched the final six episodes from last season, it seemed like the right time. I have gotten rid of "supernatural" already. I just can't excuse watching a show just cause it's scary. The first episode had some genuinely creepy moments, but they were replace with cheap scares in the second episode. Oh well, no great loss.

Sunday:

The fox animation staples are there. "The Simpsons" is not anywhere near the quality it was a decade ago, but it still provides a few laughs. "Family Guy" is still doing its thing. But I gotta say, it's starting to use flashbacks too much. And they're starting to use the "Hey, this has gone on way too long now but that's what makes it funny" humor too much to. I am becoming more and more impressed with "American Dad." The last few episodes have done a great job of using shock humor and filling it into a great story. I particularly liked the one where Stan finds out his son is a geek. Although I am a little biased.

"Rome" is pretty entertaining. Lots of sex and violence. Pretty much a soap opera, but more enjoyable and without commercials.

Monday:

"Arrested Development" is great. That's all I'm gonna say. Just watch it. "Kitchen Confidential" is OK. There aren't really enough laughs for a show that's supposed to be a comedy. But Nick Brendon being back on TV is pretty cool.

The two "best" new sitcoms are on CBS on Monday. I quoted best cause sitcoms are generally pretty crappy. "How I Met Your Mother" and "Out of Practice. " "Mother" is pretty great. Alyson Hannigan is doing her thing, and so is Doogie. It's pretty great how people now seem to realize that NPH doesn't have to play clean and is actually pretty great at being sleazy. Thanks Harold and Kumar. "Practice" is another show from the guys who did "Frasier." They're still in pretty good form, using the sitcom medium to pretty good effect in the setup of their characters. The one down fall to both of these shows is that the main characters are the least interesting and least skilled in their acting. That's not to say they are not enjoyable, I'd just rather see the other guys. Also, the lesbian sister on "Practice" seems a little to "male fantisized" to work. All she does is go after super models and sluttly, big breasted woman, and in my experience that tends not to happen a lot.

OK, halfway* through. I will regale you later with the rest of the week.

*I don't watch any TV on Friday or Saturday, and the only thing on Thursday that I watch is Joey, and pretty much nothing has changed there. Which is to say he's dumb and an actor. But it's good bubble gum for the eyes. Also, I might check out Will & Grace this week since it's live. Gay people are wacky you know.

A Follow Up

For those of you who read "The Funniest Thing Hal Sparks Ever Said," and were confused as to why there was no message, it's because he is not funny.

I, however, am High-larious and very cutting in my sarcasm.

The true answer to that statement is in fact the time he was talking about "The Club," and commented that VH-1 uses it to put him on the shelf when he's not needed for an "I love the..." segment.

Seriously, drag him out back and shoot him already.

Radio Ads

OK, so it's bad enough that we have to listen to Radio DJ's, but now they've got ads that sound like them?

At first I thought I was really listening to "witty" radio DJ banter. I'm listening to the radio, and I'm thinking, "Oh great, more bullshit opinions from people who suck." But no, advertisements.

I've Got the Power

So, no power for most of LA. I mean, I did work, but it was actually at something I like. That's right, we have finally filmed a few things for the website. In fact one short video is totally filmed. It's pretty exciting to be doing this stuff now, not to mention the fact that it's looking great.

The main point of this post though, is to talk about P.D.A. Now Jeff has commented on several occassions that he hates P.D.A., especially if it's in the way of his watching a movie. I, for one, don't care about P.D.A. Call me an exhibitionist, but there's something fun about kissing a girl in public. That being said, there is a line, and this couple at a bar in Santa Monica crossed it. The highlight of their making out was when the guy, on multiple occassions, pulled the girl's shirt down in an effort to see her breasts. Classy.

That bar was awesome though. It's on the top floor of a hotel on the corner of 2nd and California in Santa Monica. You get drunk while watching the sunset over the Pacific. Classy.

New Contest

The fight for funniest street name in LA county is down to two. Love it. Everytime I watch this movie, I catch something new. The world that Andrew Niccol and Peter Weir created is absolutely amazing. I'm slowly coming to realize that if you create a fun and interesting world within your film, you've got me 75% of the way to loving your movie. Truman's extra 25% comes from the story and the acting. Carrey got robbed. And I will go to my grave thinking that. Also, I've never noticed it before, but Linney really holds her own. I guess I was just too enthralled by Carrey before, but she is awesome. And I always love me some Ed Harris. Also, I totally forgot Peter Krause was in the movie.

If you haven't seen it yet, rent it. There is a montage at the beginning of the film with a bunch of crashings, but then it basically becomes a romantic comedy with Owen Wilson in the lead and Vince Vaughn there for comic relief. And he is very funny. Wilson does pull off the romantic part pretty well. Which is a bit of a surprise. Also, I am totally in love with Rachel MacAdams now. So pretty. So good in this movie.

Major complaint. Way too long. I haven't thought about it enough to decide what I would cut, but that movie could be a good 20 mins. shorter. I foung myself looking at my watch for most of the last half hour. There is a great cameo at the end that I won't spoil, but leads to some of the funniest stuff in the movie.

Anyway, recommended, but don't feel bad if you decide just to rent it.

Corpse Bride

It's pretty good.

I haven't seen "Nightmare" in a while, but I would not put "Corpse" up at that high of quality. As Paul said, it felt like watching a TV special. Especially since it's barely and hour and fifteen minutes long. My biggest problem is that they don't spend enough time showing us the environment. There are little snipets, but the world is so awesome, I just kept wanting to see more, and never got to. All the things you would expect to be good (the animation, the humor, etc.) are, so it's not a dissapointment, but I sure wanted more when it was over.

Wanna Cyber?

Remember cyber sex. Hell, I even forgot to ask for something specific for a present from my family.

What does weird me out is that I am now older than both of my parents were when they got married, and in little over a year I'll be older than my mom was when she had me.

Also

Added to below.

Cobain - Upstairs in my house, hanging with some friends before a school dance. Needless to say I like it. I've watched it three times now, and it never bores. Obviously the most engaging thing about it is it changes each time I see it. Sure, it's pretty much the same, but there are definitely subtle differences. The first big one is Jeff's adlib at the beginning of the scene with all three of them. Cracks my shit up everything. Also, Nell's slap at the end has come at a different point every time. I commented to her about this the second time I saw the show, and I almost commented about it again last night, but I didn't want her to become conscious of it because the coolest thing about it it is you can totally watch her character coming to that point each and ever time. Speaking of character, watching Nell and Darren embody these characters has been awesome. The first few times we got together, it was clear that they both had an appreciation for the material. Exhibit A being Darren wanting the screenings of Eva to keep going. The way they play off each other is great. Knowing the script I can tell when they mess up the lines, but it never really feels like a mistake because they've got the conversational style of the characters so well developed.

Admittedly I do have a few problems with the play. There are a few moments where it feels like Frank injected some conversational stylings of our group of friends rather than the characters style. True, these characters are probably people who would hang out with us in real life, but it's still a little jarring. Also, it's a little weird to have a marriage being affected by this affair. I don't know what it is, but a marriage seems above an affair based on a mutual love of erotic fan fiction. However, as the show has gone on, this has bothered me less and less, which is probably a testament to the chemistry of Nell and Darren.

Certainly I'm biased, I was production manager. However, I purposely stayed out of the rehearsal process for most of the time to try and be as objective as possible once the show went up. One thing is for sure, I definitely rekindled my love for theater with this whole process. Who knows, maybe I'll even act again...

Moving

So Andrea and I are finally unpacked. We still have to hang pictures, but we can live normal lives again. It feels good. The main pluses are having a bed that is not ten feet off the ground, and having two parking spaces. NO MORE STREET PARKING!

Another plus seems to be a less oppressive feeling from the city. Just a slight switch into the valley makes us seem so much more central to everything, and thus much more willing to go places. I mean, Frank and the Hollywood house are just down the street (and by that I mean a couple of miles down the 101). It's not Hollywood, which is what we wanted, but it's close and the space we are in is much nicer than anything we would've been able to find in Hollywood for the same price. Also, I don't feel as guilty leaving Spankadelphia now that it seems Jeff, Emory and Leslie are leaving as well.

Anyway, I'm never moving myself again. Paul's help was great, but it was still hell. The next move I make will be when I can afford to pay someone else to do it, or some company I'm working for pays for it.

Where You At?

So I've been gone a while. What with moving, producing a play, trying to not get fired, etc. Sorry! I promise I'll be better once we're in the new place. Lots of TV talk (still haven't watched the last few episodes of West Wing), hopefully some movie talk. Plus there's that all important Sprint/Nextel merger. Woot! And it's my birthday this month. See ya soon.

Wait, what?

So when did this blog change from my original idea of talking about movies and TV to me talking about all the famous people I've seen? Buddha's Belly restaurant. As mentioned before, we saw Orlando Bloom there. Now we've seen the guy from Cluless and most recently the best friend on Scrubs. You know (whispers) the black guy.

On a related topic, Buddha's Belly is fucking great. You should go there. NOW!

The End is Nigh

So, tonight is the last episode of the season for Arrested Development. Which is sad as it may not be back. The show has been a little up and down this season, but it's definitely still one of the best shows on TV right now. I hope the story about taking it off sweeps so that Fox can justify bringing it back is true.

West Wing is already over. I have six episodes saved up. Hope they're good.

Needless to say Lost is barreling towards an end. Hopefully the last four (I think) episodes will all have stuff going on in them. I have to say, I am fully expecting a huge cliffhanger. Maybe it will outdo the cliffhanger from season one of West Wing.

I missed the last two episodes of Deadwood. I heard they're good. I hope I can catch up. I definitely miss hearing the word cocksucker every three minutes.

I CANNOT wait for Gilmore Girls this week. I miss it. I need super fast dialogue back in my life. Plus, Dean returns, so expect good things. My only concern is for next year as Amy Palladino isn't yet signed to come back. Keep your fingers crossed.

Finally, Veronica Mars. I LOVE this show. This is like the Yin to Lost's Yang. There is SO MUCH going on. I mean, Frank is terrible at watching TV shows. So I normally tell him, if he's missed two episodes, to just start watching and he'll catch up. Not with this show. You miss one episode, and you're done for. My only concern now is that it will have a huge sophomore slump once they solve the murder.

All I have to say, is it's gonna be a busy May. Woot!
